We’re an independent insurance agency in Gainesville, Florida, in business since 1983. Florida agency license L055907, held by Lee C. McGriff and Mack Williams Insurance Agency, Inc. This page explains how we write, review, source, update and correct the articles and guides on this website.
Why we publish educational content
Insurance decisions are easier when you understand what a policy does and doesn’t do. Our pages are written to explain coverage, Florida rules and the questions worth asking at renewal. They are general information, not legal advice and not a promise of coverage. Coverage always depends on the policy issued, its terms and underwriting.
Who writes and reviews our content
Our articles are written or edited by our team and checked against their sources before publication. A licensed member of our team reviews questions about our content.
You can check any Florida agent or agency license on the Florida Department of Financial Services Licensee Search.
How we research and source
When a page rests on a law, a rule or a number, we link to the source so you can read it yourself. We rely first on primary sources:
- Florida Statutes, especially the Insurance Code in Title XXXVII (Florida Senate)
- The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (floir.gov)
- The Florida Department of Financial Services (myfloridacfo.com)
- Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, Florida’s state-created insurer (citizensfla.com)
- FEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program (fema.gov)
- U.S. Census Bureau data and county and city government sites for local facts
When we use news reports or industry data, we name the source and the date. We don’t recommend or rank insurance companies in our articles. We name a company only when a law, rule or official notice applies to it. We don’t publish premium estimates as if they were quotes.
How we keep pages current
Pages updated under these standards show the date they were last updated. We aim to review our main coverage and local pages at least once a year, and sooner when a Florida law or rule that affects them changes. When a change is substantive, we update the date.
Corrections
If you see something that looks wrong or out of date, please tell us at mwi@mcgriffwilliams.com or call (352) 371-7977. A licensed member of our team will review it. If we make a correction that changes the meaning of a page, we update the page and its date.
What our content is not
- It isn’t legal, tax or financial advice.
- It isn’t an offer of coverage or a quote. Coverage isn’t in place until it’s bound.
- It doesn’t replace a conversation about your own property, business or family.
