McGriff-Williams Insurance is an independent insurance agency in Gainesville, Florida. We’ve been helping families and businesses understand their insurance since 1983.

Today we’re a team of 29, led by five partners, working from our own building on West University Avenue.

How we work

  • Independent. We became an independent agency in 2008. That means we work with a number of insurance companies, so we may be able to compare options for you rather than offer just one.
  • Education first. We take time to explain how coverage works, what a policy does and doesn’t cover, and what your choices are. You make the decision with the facts in front of you.
  • Licensed people. When you have a question about your coverage, a licensed member of our team can talk it through with you.
  • Local. We live and work in North Central Florida, and you’re welcome to stop by the office during business hours.

Our story

Lee McGriff opened the agency in Gainesville in 1983. Mack Williams joined him in 1986, and together they formed McGriff-Williams Insurance. Their friendship is still at the center of the agency, and both remain active today.

Along the way we became an independent agency in 2008, bought our building at 3501 West University Avenue in 2011, added a health insurance practice in 2014 and began offering life and disability insurance in 2016. Read the full story on our history page.
